Thought we deserved the win on the whole and it was an improved performance, especially in the first half. Fairly solid and showed more quality in the final third.
First win at home and out of the relegation zone. Four points from two games since the restart which is a decent return. Hopefully we can push on from this now and move away from trouble. Two home games coming up against Cadiz and Elche is a great chance to do this.
Positive entrance for Bade, who calmed things a bit while Nianzou was hella shaky back there. Good start to the new year with our FIRST home win. That takes us to 15 points. Only 17 more to catch La Real in 3rd!
And extremely predictable for the opposition to design their strategy.
Sampaoli, reknowned for never playing the same team twice is getting a bit predictable. Perhaps the players limit his strategies.
But our play is very expensive and inefficient, the amount of work done for reward is way too high. Better just playing the long ball and collecting 9:1 in rebounds to maintain the pressure and the ball upfield. The alternative is passing the ball around and gradually forging an opening, this costs the team because it burns energy and we are a bunch of old guys.
But Sampaoli is a possession guy and thatās why weāve not seen much change in the system from what Lopetegui did.
Much better than Nianzouās first couple of matches. Nianzou is still quite shaky, which is disappointing - but heās only 20 and will hopefully get better with time.
I can see Bade developing into an undisputed starter CB if he keeps up with good performances.
Crucial win in the first home game since World Cup where we had three winners.
Missing eight first team players, but coped well, thanks to great effort and efficiency from players like Lamela, Oliver Torres, Fernando and improved performances from the likes of Jordan and Rakitic in the middle which did not promise much before the match.
Lamela was the most influential player in the first half, constantly offering an option in opposition area and near their box, winning possession back for us with his usual tenacity and willingness to track back, causing Getafe defenders put in extra effort and making them foul him in good areas. The goal came after he won another free kick in great area for a dangerous diagonal cross that Rakitic executed very well and Acuna finished superbly.
I always prefer Rafa Mir to YEN even though he also misses good chances and is not very mobile. Mir is a cooler finisher imo and is stronger than En-Nesyri.
If we had a reliable goalscorer we would not have had to fight the relegation battle.
Hopefully this will give the team enough of the boost to push us higher up and with at least two much needed good quality additions this month it is not impossible to get into European places if other teams fall back in second half of the season.
Think a European push via the league will be a tall order but mid table possible. As things stand the gap between us and Valencia in 11th is only 4 points.
Yeah thatās true. Thankfully the rest of the teams havenāt pulled clear of us that makes it possible to finish closer to mid table. We will see. Vamos!
Very relieved when I saw the result and feeling a bit more positivity in the comments puts a smile on my face as well. Iām on the other side of the world right now, Melbourne Australia, settling in here not being able to watch and the game times arenāt that friendly to me either but thatās okay. You guys help me keep up, glad with the victory and two nice heading goals of perfect crosses. Good for both Mir and AcuƱa to shrug some negativity off of them. Up we go! Vamos mi Sevilla
I donāt think thereās much point in worrying about other teamsā individual results on a week to week basis right now or whether we finish a given week in 18th versus 17th. Weāre not even at the half way mark of the season.
What we do need is to hit 40 points and then weāll be ok. Three other teams (at least) will be below us.
I stand corrected, not sure why I got the impression he had been on the bench for the first chunk of the season. But yeah, apparently heās been subbing on most matches after the 60th minute a la Griezmann, but for some reason I had the impression he hadnāt been playing.
Anyhow, Iām glad to have not been accurate in forecasting a Munir hat trick. Iāll even take the kind of last-minute stress that itās all going to collapse. Just keep those three point matches coming, Iāll take them however they come, just like I said back when Lopetegui was at the helm.
Even I will accept this as a fair summary of our striker quandary. I donāt currently love either of the two, but I just enjoy watching YEN work hard more than Rafa standing around waiting for a touch-in, and I suppose working hard is a decent tiebreaker at the moment, since their goalscoring abilities are pretty much identical: close to nil prior to the last two matches.
I suspect unless we get something earth-shattering at striker in the next couple weeks, weāll keep seeing YEN and Rafa swapping in and out, with Sampaoli waiting to see if one of them really picks up more steam than the otherā¦

Anyhow, kudos to Rafa Mir, my favorite player ever, whom we should never sell at any price because heās amazingly better than YEN and also really sexy and has perfect hair and farts rainbows.

Is that good enough @SurreySevilla? Have I broken the hex by lofting sufficient praise on him?
