M6: Sevilla FC vs Valencia CF

image

A very important match this early in the season, where Sevilla hosts a Valencia team looking to stake a claim in this Top 4 race. We’ve held a decent record against them under Lopetegui (4W - 1D), who also has beaten Bordalas in his last 4 occasions. But judging today’s game on those stats alone would play down the threat being imposed by Los Che. With Sevilla often raising their level when going up against these sort of rivals, will we see the team score their first big win of the season?

No Óliver or Suso in today’s squad. What would your starting XI look like?

I just hope to have all argentinians in the line up. Lamela - Papu - Ocampos should be in my opinion the most interesting combination.

I’m hoping for a good performance tonight and some entertaining football.

In reality though I’d take 1-0 now if offered. Going to be a tough one though against a Valencia side who have started well.

I would break the standard paradigm, not sure how, but I would break it. We need a shake up, we look jaded and washed out. Maybe I’d try Montiel or Augustinsson, Oscar doesn’t impress me over Papu but I’d be OK with 45 minutes each. I’d leave Rakitic out and have a forward line of Lamela Yen and Mir.

They will play another 4-4-2 type formation. So if our centre backs are again too pressured by their forwards and our midfield gets overwhelmed again we will struggle again. At least they are missing some big players, so we are lucky already. Need to win the midfield, I would stuff it with fighting spirits and try to work well as a 5 man unit. No Rakific or Jordan for me.

                 Bono

Montiel Kounde Carlos Acuña

    Fernando Delaney

Lamela Oscar Ocampos

                Nesyri

Lamela - Papu - Ocampos

Well that would, I think, make more play through the centre and more posession in the zone, so I would love it.

And I don’t think we’ll ever see the best of YEN while he’s playing defensive centre forward.

The exact kind of inventive play that we need. It would only happen when Suso & Ocampos are the wing players, but nowhere near enough.

Near perfect, but Lope just had to ruin it right? :unamused:

Perhaps Ocampos playing LWB, à la Carrasco for Atletico? The only thing is Rekik is not Mario Hermoso.

Almost all 5 argentinians  great line up, let’s go for the win!

Suddenly switching to a 4-4-2, while Valencia actually is used to that system and we are not.

This one is pure on the players to win the game for Lope. We don’t play the system so they need to figure it out during the game and get a feel for it how it turns out.

Big coinflip if you ask me. In this game. But at least he switched up something, which I’m thankful for already

Sooo not Lope.

Lol I’m sorry I thought I read Rafa Mir and Nesyri as last one, it’s Ocampos… Well scrap tthat first part hahahah.

Very Lope.

At least we ain’t playing with 3 DMs. But a 4-2-3-1 is essentially a 4-4-2 while defending.

He’s playing the ‘stupid’ first half again.

Hope we’re still in the game when he gets serious.

Free Ludwig!

I saw it in an article but is Augustinsson an actual left back worst then stand-in lb Rekik?

Bad sign or other cause?

Bad sign no? We all know how Lope struggles to trust new folks though.

Also Montiel his first start! Let’s go Gonzalo!

The only logic i can come up with is that Ludwig can’t understand the language, or simply needs more time. Otherwise why leave 2 LBs on the bench?

Unless Lope tryna outdo his Rekik for Papu sub from the weekend.

It’s not even about the formation at this point… he can field the best possible players but unless I see us attacking with 3-4 people in the box, not 1-2 max in the edge of the box (not even inside) then screw everything, it’s unwatchable!

We need to change the approach, tactics and philosophy first, then comes the formation crafting. This way we’re only recycling. I hope we see some sign of change on that every match, but I highly doubt it.
