It wasn´t a penalty, but you are literally coinflipping it. We had moments before where it should have been a penalty plenty of times and we got away with those. Remember those. Waiting for it to be called against us, luckily we got it rectified thanks to Bono.
Full time! No dropped points today
SAN BONOU
It started well some good intentions, and open play. Suso being the difference maker with a stunner but the second half was a drag and we got maybe more then we deserved really, we didn´t show up much. Thanks to Bono we can be content still.
Also those subs… stop it please.
For me, almost always start either Oscár or Oliver over Rakitic.
It’s a victory but sorry, this football doesn’t work for me.
When our system is sufficiently analysed and studied we are stuffed and then what do we do?
The answer is to destroy opposition like Alavez, not play the percentage game.
Lope really isn´t the trainer to let young players get their well needed minutes to grow. If he could sub another 30+ yo in, he would go for that.
should really question this, in a future perspective.
Lope subs were extremely conservative (no surprise.) He’s only playing the guys he trusts. But it hurt our performance in the 2nd half. We barely did anything.
We were much better than Alavés, but he refuses to put in attacking players to kill off the game. C’mon Julen!
It’s totally embarrassing how the criminal organization RFEF with their referee puppets are doing everything they can to prevent us from disturbing the top 2 teams from Madrid.
The Alaves player should’ve seen red for almost breaking Ocampos’ shin and the penalty would of never been given to RM or Atletico this season - the distance between the ball (when shot) and Kounde’s hand was extremely close, so it was natural that the hand was there and it was a very quick shot after the ball bounced.
But agreed with the overall sentiment here that this type of play is not suiting us and I’m not sure when was the last time we’ve beaten an opponent comfortably - even if the opponent was a very modest team. Perhaps the decision to renew with Lope for 2 more seasons was a rushed one, but time will tell.
Positive results and a team carried by a good defense and gk are the thing holding Lope up. No positive playstyle or player growth. However I have to say in the interviews and dressing room vids ive seen do show a well voiced father figure trainer to work for as a squad who can say the right things to get the team together I imagine otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten the miracle run to the Europa League last year. So probably Lope is doing more well than we have been seeing, it just kinda hurts our eyes on the field sometimes. There are probably many worse trainers if you look at all the aspects of the job. But attacking football is not one of those.
When Kounde had Covid, we didn’t win a single game (2L, 1D). But in our first match without DC, albeit with last minute heroics from Bono, we managed a win. We clearly struggled to close out the game, so I hope we can skate by these fixtures while our stud is still recovering.
Can Rekik please have a run out at CB?
I’ve read reports that the management is trying to keep Diego Carlos for longer and sell Kounde in the summer. It’s not that hard to find a replacement for DC while it is extremely difficult to do so for Kounde.
I think this approach is absolutely wrong. Atletico kept its best players almost all the time and when sold for higher sums they replaced with higher sums, not lower sums hoping that they’ll do something.
Agreed. Under no circumstances should we sell Kounde unless his release clause is triggered. Like you said, Diego Carlos is a great defender but can be replaced whiles Kounde is a one of a kind player, and the fact that he’s still young highlights the fact that we need to keep him
What was it something about Suso’s reaction? I couldn’t watch it due to it not being available in my country, maybe they made it only available for Spain.
Anyone seen it?
Finally got it posted. Sorry for the delay.
Looking at the red card that Cornella’s player Estelles received for fouling Araujo last night in the CDR match, can’t help but compare it with the yellow that Mendez received for fouling Ocampos. Almost identical cases, only that the raised foot on Ocampos was more dangerous, and it still didn’t receive a red card.
Quite disgusting.
Football is so studied now that each team knows pretty much the strengths and weakenss of its oppenent and sets out its tactics to neutralise the other. I predicted 2-3 and if YEN’s goal was allowed and the penalty scored it would have been. Also predicted Gudelj on 66 minutes, which is normally the first substitution, he came on in minute 76. So really we are too predictable, we really must allow the natural talent to dominate against weaker sides
Great podcast guys.
