LaLiga 2021-22 Season Thread

And Dembele too, 3 months.

But before we get excited, I watched Barca demolish Juventus Sunday evening, didn’t recognize half the players but great team performance.

Now is time to start thinking about our predictions for another ‘different’ season that’s ready to kick off. Who could have predicted that Messi and Sergio Ramos would be on the dole as season 20/21 ended?

Remember that predictions are difficult, especially about the future !

40% Attendance of 17,500 confimed by the Andalu Parliament for the Rayo game which kicks off at 10:15 p.m. CET, Sunday.

Monchi has done an interview and explains that the transfer market is in a bottleneck but expects more signings when it starts to flow. The only other inconvenience is the salary limit (that could indicate a big ticket name on the list or problems moving players out)

It’s going to be hellish hot Sunday as the heat-wave peaks.

Monchi confirmed that their was a coronavirus outbreak with the team and that at least 4 players had it. There are doubts about having a full roster on Sunday.

Big day today for Villarreal :villarreal: as they try to do what we couldn’t last year and beat the Champion’s League winners. Villarreal could be tough this year. Didn’t really lose anyone and added some pieces. Plus our old boy Iborra has recovered from his nasty knee injury.

The guy is an absolute gentleman, lots of respect for him and also Emery.

Tough luck for Villarreal as they lost to Chelsea on penalties for the Uefa Super Cup. They deserved it more imo after the brilliant performance in the second half. They are a totally different team under Emery and they could very well challenge for top 4 this season if they keep it up like that. Also a team to watch out for in CL.

Aemet Predicting a high of 46c/ 115f for Sunday. I would say It’s going to be well over 30 at kick off.
Not great for sitting wearing a mask for a couple of hours with only a 50cl ration of water.
Are you going Tim?

That without several key players!

No, not going, last year the medics had to treat something like 90 fans for heat in one game and I can’t see it improving with the extra queueing and masks, careful @Brian

Season kicks off in 3 hours time with Valencia Getafe.

Great podcast @ChrisLail and @Edinho, I listened to the second half today and wow how much has changed in 4 days with the transfers. The thing about Ocampos is that he’s always double marked when he’s in a forward position on the wing, if he gets inside he drags a 3rd player in, gets a lot of attention but makes it difficult for him to look good.

Thanks for the kind words Tim. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen.

It’s amazing the movement. I kind of want to have a pre-match podcast tomorrow. haha

I’m a little worried about the game on Sunday. There’s insanely high temperatures out there, almost to the point of danger. Thankfully we have a night game, but even then it should be about 40° C or 104° F. That’s not safe to play in. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the game postponed to a later date when Sevilla cools down.

They should just turn on the sprinklers.

Just saw Lope do a 15 min press conference towards the game tomorrow. Classical football speech. Nothing was said that could lead to any exciting news. Questions about Kounde, Montiel, Lamela & Dmitrovic, the canteranos, the weather conditions, the La Liga without Messi, our ambition, all basically leading towards the game on our hands this Sunday:

  • conditions will be hard, but it’s a competition we need to compete with what circumstances we get.
  • the league starts before the transfer limit closes, means we only need to look at the Rayo game, anything after that comes later. He didnt name kounde at all.
  • basically with some fitness issues and with some covid cases, we will see tommorow what team is the best we can get for the game.
  • Rayo being a well oiled team, with automatisms and a good trainer, lots of pace and high intensity. Also strong wings, shortly naming Isi Palazon. So it will be a tremendous challenge.
  • Montiel is good already, and has a big future ahead so he’s glad. Helps being as competitive as possible in all leagues, in a long season. Same for Dmitrovic.
  • Lamela is different, been out of it, some injuries, taking it slowly and will need some time to get into team.
  • Canteranos did well in being a part of the team this preseason. Naming none in particular.
  • Loss of Messi is big, obviously for la Liga and football fans, losing the best player in the history according to him. Nothing really more about where we put ourselves compared to last season just looking at Rayo and three points there.
  • and obviously happy with the return of media and crowd, eventho in smaller numbers.

Some points that I got out of it.

Kounde is definitely on his way out - the sooner we sell him to Chelsea the better. There are only 17 days left until the transfer window closes, so we better make the planned moves happening.

Thanks @SurreySevilla very useful. Can’t believe Gnagnon/Amadou, Gnagnon gets a dorsal number but neither expected to play.

Surely that number 9 shirt is going to change hands?

Lopetegui says it makes him teary-eyed that la liga and Sevilla especially can only play with limited capacity when you see other countries have full capacity fans. He happy there are some fans back but wants all the sevillistas with them. Hopefully it won’t be long before la liga joins the other countries.
