This is the stupid shit that always seems to happen with Sevilla FC. Normally it the board, fans, players not good enough, players losing heads, injuries, players suspensions and now it the manager losing his head and out 7 games.
We are always just a step from disaster or self sabotage. I feel bad for the players that fighting but only so many times you can keep getting again with more nonsense to deal with. It not looking good guys.
On the bright side it never boring guys. It always a crazy rollercoaster but not what we need! Haha
Or to put it another way, Rafa Mir continued in his peak form from the last four years.
Don’t know if this was just a coincidence, but funny that Rafa Mir and Pedrosa ended up at the same club because in San Francisco, the two of them were hanging out multiple times during the US tour. not sure if they were roomies or just pals, but I nabbed their autographs together, and Pedrosa struck me as a more or less ok guy, but Rafa Mir was sort of a prick. Basically tried to shoo me away like a stray dog after giving an autograph.
In terms of last 8 games’ form, Elche are bottom with 3 points, then, surprisingly, Espanyol with 5, followed by Oviedo and Sevilla with 6, then Mallorca with 7 and Alaves with 8. All of those, except Espanyol, are in the relegation mix. In the last 5 seasons the points needed for survival were 41, 34, 41, 39 and 35. With how bad a few teams are playing, this could be a season where a lower points total of 40 is enough so really anyone who can hit form for a few games will stay up.
Sorry for the delay here folks. Life‘s been pretty all over the place this year. I’ve been pulled in every direction and haven’t been able to watch a lot of Sevilla It’s been pretty hectic to be part of the Spanish-speaking community in Minnesota these days.
Here’s the updated chart though! Ryan’s right. We are right in line with our other post-Lopetegui seasons. Given the turmoil in our front office and the financial troubles we have, I honestly think we’re overachieving. We were spoiled for a long time, and it’s easy to try to convince ourselves that we should be a top four club, but if any other club was going through this for as long as we have been, we’d be applauding the fact that they’ve stayed in the first division.
Honorable mention: Kike Salas has really impressed me since being introduced into the lineup again. He has been solid and has given the backline some ball playing ability + passion and drive. He looks like an instant starter for me going forward and Im really happy for him. I hope he is here long term. Seems like he also wants to be here. Well done Kike!
Looking much better in recent games and definitely looks like you’ve enough in the tank to be safe soon. Word of caution, still need to keep the foot on the gas, Sevilla had a 9-point cushion at the same point last season and scraped survival by a single point
realistically it’s a case of win the next 2 home games (Rayo and Valencia, who’ve both been playing better) and the 2 away games after FCB (Levante and Oviedo.) 42 points = safe and season over. The only non-tough game after that set is Espanyol home, but better to go into May without a relegation sweat.
Rafah Mir was alleged to have racially abused Espanyol’s Omar El Hilali saying “you came over on a small boat”, which sparked the racism protocol during Elche - Espanol on Sunday.
He’s a disgusting human being and should never wear a Sevilla shirt again.
