Alaves winning at Athletic Club! Amazing win for them! First real shock of season.
Shows what a tough game it will be next Saturday and we’ve not fared well against them in recent seasons.
One La Liga observation as this matchday draws to a close. We are now in the same position we were for big chunks of last season. We’re the same distance from relegation as we are from UCL spots. And actually, with Girona picking up a point today, same distance from bottom of table as from UCL.
Not an exciting place to be, but even the matches we lost left a better taste than the first few matches over the last few seasons.
4 points on 4 matches ain’t great, but at least it’s trending in the right direction thus far.
True. The league is very competitive. We not playing terrible and doing okay. However, most of these teams are organised and decent in defence. Then have a couple of key players up front that can hurt you.
It will be tough but hopefully we can get at least a point which will be an improvement on recent seasons. Vamos!
Very competitive I agree. I would take a draw at Alaves. A tough run of games to come against Villarreal, Rayo and Barca.
On the bright side, it’s much much higher than last seasons mid season update of 684,000. To be precise a 3,136.7% increase.

wow. those figures are wild and humbling. a very very clear reminder of why expectations should be as modest as possible and just how grateful we should be tohave 7 points after 5 games… let’s make it to 41 and we should be safe.
can we get one of those season progress line graphs with our running points total please? i forget who always does those (bless them).
@sterusebn is the saint.
Hopefully within a few months we’ll be able to just tag @meta or something like that and have the chart autogenerate and appear instead of always having to boss around Mr Stevillista.
For the record, I used Steve’s most recent graph from last season and gave @gemini the test and it failed big time. Either that or it is making a predictive model, estimating that we will either morph into Lope’s best squad, or in the worst case, we’ll be somewhere in between the last three seasons and Lope ball tallies.
See results:
For real though here is Steve’s version so you can envision where 7 points on 5 matches lands us:
In short, it puts us right in the white space between a standard Lope season and our last 3 seasons.
I’m glad I’m not being replaced by Gemini any time soon.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. -Proverbs 22:6
I’m totally using that Bible verse in the correct context, right?
Looking back at your chart, Mr Stevillista, something amazing stands out. In spite of the last 4 seasons being mostly terrible, we have won matchday 5 EVERY season of the last 4 season, and Lope NEVER won a matchday 5.
Wacky, right?
Marcão suspended for SIX games (1 for the double yellow, 4 for insults, 1 for kicking ball away near the 4th official). No word on whether Sevilla will appeal yet. Also, Almeyda will serve a 1-match ban for his red card.
That’s fucking excessive as hell! Only Sevilla would get that kind of punishment.
Tbh, it looked like Marcão was excessive himself. At the time, it seemed he even put a hand on him, but the article only mentioned a few Portuguese ‘compliments’.
I think both his challenges were bad, and he was rightly sent off. It angers me when he goes to ground recklessly like that, cause he’s not as sharp as before. And the guy does this in the box as well. Set an example, please!
For me it’s bittersweet, cause we finally have Marcão playing many games, and he’s just returned from injury. But on the other hand, it leaves a spot for Castrín to get more minutes, and possibly Cardoso. Perhaps even Salas can see the field one of these days. I’m less optimistic about Kike, but look how Carmona’s been playing. Who woulda thought?
After a long hiatus, glad to be back haha. This season has had some positive and negatives, interesting to see what happens from here.
Most disappointing player to me has been Sow, sure others think differently.
Hope all had a good Christmas!
I could also say Juanlu & Alfon to name a couple, but i always feel like Sow leaves a lot to be desired. He can finish, pass well, and defend aptly, but he often goes unnoticed, and fails to make an influence. Still feel we can get more out of him in that midfield trio w/ Agoume & Mendy.
Also, good to see you again @RyanD ! Happy holidays! ![]()
