Credit to the team, particularly the second half subs ,for dragging the team back into the game

A massive point from a game that looked beyond them at the end of the first half.

Hopefully they can take this point and keep progressing!

Oso should be the first choice left back

Superb second half from the team! Thought we were brilliant and could have won it. We battered them in that second half.

This team doesn’t know when it’s beaten. A huge point that feels like a win and the kind of fight we need to stay up.

Six points clear of the drop! Vamos!

Fuck yes guys! Can we keep working on some wingplay from here on out please?!

If they can put up this kind of fight every game, we might not be in such big trouble. This shows how much fight can take you above talent. Results will come if you fight like this every game. So many showed tonight that they really care and you can’t buy that for money.

this team is capable of producing magic.

The subs made the difference. Oso and Ejuke particularly with the wing play.

Oso an exciting player who for me should be starting. Isaac deserves a start also. The passion of the homegrown players is what this team needs!

I litterally ordered a Isaac #7 jersey today. Must be faith.

The draw takes us to 30 points from 26 games.

Three more wins from our last 12 keeps us up?

Should be doable and still Levante and Oviedo to play.

This run of a few games picking up these points has been massive..

Unbeaten in the last four games and six points. Huge.

They way it turned out it surely feels like a victory. We are starting to see glimpses of what actually works, but it is worrying it first starts to show in the second half. I’ve said it before, but when we lack creativity I feel like we should focus more on some good old fashioned wingplay. Ejuke causes chaos and even Januzaj gets something going, and Oso is a machine. Playing with wingbacks doesn’t do the same for me, but I’m not sure I would sacrifice an attacker to play with a 5-4-1…

And let’s talk referee: I’m pretty sure Juanlu was shown a second yellow for more or less the same tackle that Antony made on Oso (already on a yellow), but well… I think the ref did ok and of course shouldn’t be blamed by his colleagues incompetence in another game.

A golden point against Betpiss given the circumstances.

I think the narrative within the club should be - let’s aim for Conference league qualification. Even if not reached, we’ll at least avoid relegation.

Not a bad run of results lately… a couple wins and we’ll be more comfortable.

Switched off the match after the first half as 1) it was almost 3am and 2) The team looked miles off the pace with no attacking threat. But I couldn’t really sleep and ā€œwatchedā€ the text commentary for the last 10 minutes, actually thought the team could get that 1 point and they did.

Couple of thoughts:

  1. Drop the 5 at the back: Almeyda should stop starting 5 at the back to start games and try for more control in the midfield and outlets up front, sometimes the defenders themselves look confused with so many around them but no one to mark or track. We know Adams isn’t world class but having him up alone with almost no backup isn’t helping.

  2. Rely more on wingplay: the team was absolutely flat and toothless in the half that I watched. Once Vargas gets back on the pitch and Ejuke is not his tunnel-vision self they can wreck some havoc, I’d also like to see Peque there sometimes as he is at a physical disadvantage in the midfield.

  3. Oso should start more games: Suazo can do a job but does not offer a lot going forward. Oso has proven more than once he can be a real threat in a wingback role. He needs more games.

  4. Issac: Issac has had a pretty so-so season by his standards and had a terrible run when he couldn’t score and even missed a penalty; but if anything can kickstart your season it’s scoring at your bitter rivals stadium to win a point! Would be interesting to see how he builds on this momentum, but first as mentioned the 5 at the back must be dropped.

Next game is home at Rayo, perfect opportunity to build on the high from this game and get more points on the board. Currently Sevilla (30 points) are right in the middle with Espanyol on 7th with 36 points and Mallorca at 18th with 24 points so every match is critical. The week after is away to Barcelona and a heat check if there ever was one.

I’m not sure about the transition from 5 in the back to 4. I would have been a couple of months back, but now I’m afraid it would shake things up to the negative side. I’m all for it starting from next season if we gain some sort of stability and foundation to build upon.

I wholeheartedly agree with your second point. I does seem like it is one of our strongest attributes at the moment, but it is criminally underused. But it might be a question of balance. If we rely more on wingplay the opposition might just shut down the middle of the pitch completely and we will Curse the amount of wingplay and endless crosses that lead to nowhere.

Also agree regarding your third point, but that is more tricky. I like Suazo and I think we need him on the pitch. But Oso is a breath of fresh air and actually does something going forward. I’m not sure we can field them both and gain max value from them at the same time.

I think Isaac needs to put in a few more better performances. I don’t think neither Akor or Maupay have played at a level that would place them on the bench instead of Isaac. But I get what you’re saying and an attacker can definitely play like night and day when they first get a couple of goals in. I think it’s more a question of some healthy competition we now have up front and we will probably see quite some rotation between the three.
