Squad list released from yesterday. Our Nigerian boys made the trip to Elche. I would say the whole “we usually perform best away from home” shtick, but we been horrible everywhere lately. 4 straight losses (1 in the Copa), with 0 goals scored. Regardless that Elche are not playing like how they started the season, we’re the ones who look ripe for the taking.
The standings are still somewhat tight from mid-table down — currently 16th with 1pt above relegation & 3 points from 11th — but it isn’t surprising to see us near the bottom given how we’ve played. Will this season ever turn around for better?
Elche have lost only once this season at home which underlines the scale of our task tonight.
Goes without saying that we need a result.

The exact same lineup that was featured against Celta, no? It didn’t end out well, but at least we were able to take some initiative. And they did only score one goal despite this defence looking… well…
But I still don’t see a goalscorer here. Unless Isaac somehow returns from the dead.

With this system, there needs to be someone in the box to target and neither Isaac nor Peque are likely to win or score many headers. Mendy and/or Sow need to be making runs into the box to get onto crosses.
Also if you have Gudelj in the game, they should build set pieces around his ability to score (occasional) screamers from outside the box.
Having 0 shots on target isn’t going to get this team the points they need to stay up

Almeyda really dont try different things tbh. I get that one game doesnt define everything, but it hasnt worked for longer than that. Why not shake stuff up and try something new?
