La Liga 25/26 - Matchday 8 - Sevilla FC vs Barcelona

Still can’t get over that effort by Carmona on the goal. From sliding into the net on one ending to scoring on the other. I’m glad he refused to leave. He’s been a beast the last few games.

We have been critical of many different people in the club, but who deserves the credit for this outstanding performance today..? The coach, the players, the corndog, the weather?

I have to praise the board this time. I not been their biggest fan for ages but they got corndog and Almeyda. They have helped turn things around. They put us in mess but to their credit are digging us out of it. Fair play on that.

It’s damn near impossible to pinpoint a single individual for this result & performance. My vote will go to Almeyda. It’s been a culmination of our previous (away) games this season. We were always building towards a performance like this. But this one still felt too early!

It was very brave of him to step away from the 3-4-3 this game and just play who has been working for him in defence: Azpi & Marcao. I guess injecting Sow was to give us more of a presence in midfield, and avoid those egregious gaps we left between the defence & midfield away to Rayo. I was so proud of how ready we were for those transitions. Despite many of those plays ending as offside calls, there was almost always a willing runner when we recovered the ball in a good position.

We also made it very difficult for Barça to generate any sort of rhythm, and we kept at it for large parts of the game. It was very tentative at 2-1, and there’s a myriad of timelines of what could have happened from then. But when Lewa missed that pen, for once, the ball didn’t lie. ( the foul was OUTSIDE the box :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:)

We get to rest on this win for 2 whole weeks! Why not dream bigger this season?! The clearest reason to not get carried away is, again, Azpi & Marcão. Just how long will they last? And is the remaining cast ready the step up if they aren’t available?

But those are questions for another day. Let us bask in this. Our forwards are scoring. We finally won at the Pizjuán! We got a competent coach who’s building something real.

We go into the int’l break in the top 6. Why not stay up here?

Vamos mi puto Sevilla Fútbol Club!!!

The first game I missed out on this season due to a concussion and it sounds like it was one of those you didn’t want to miss.

My head hurts, but I’ve read your comments, watched the highlights and read El Desmarque’s grades.

Trying not to get carried away, since we have had some poor performances, just came from a lucky win against Rayo and probably will never face a team with such a naive approach to their defensive line as Barca, but it does seem like Almeyda is re-igniting the sevillismo in the club. Pulling these kind of performances out of their sleeves and transforming the players to play at their highest level. I for one had written Januzaj and Carmona off, but Carmona is turning into a beast.

Y’all remember how Emery had a similar effect? He too could get the best out of players who later couldn’t find their feet in another club.

Things are looking way better, but In my opinion we better not get carried away. If/when we lose, maybe even against what we think is a poorer side, it will just be a bump in the road. We finally got some momentum and it feels good!

Our victory yesterday took us into 6th place in the table and put us level with our results from the 2019/20 season. I genuinely don’t know what to make of this, but it’s a fun ride to be on.

Hello everyone! Are we back?? Is Sevilla top tier again?!

For a dose of realism…we’re only 4 points above where Garcia Pimienta was last season. Not to suggest we’re seeing a similar quality of team, just that this early in the season, a couple victories (eg. the last two weeks) produce wild swings in rankings.

To be clear, I’ve been the eternal optimist that we’re going to bounce back from these seasons in the tank, but I also think there are enough weak points in the squad that we shouldn’t assume we’ll be fighting for UCL in matchday 30 or 35. Definitely think we could but, without Vargas and Azpi, let’s say, things would look rather different in a couple months.

Baby steps! Let’s keep fighting for 40 points as quickly as possible and if we get there by matchday 25, let’s revisit the Europe conversation.

Thank you, guys. Really appreciated. Being a handball-goalkeeper involves being hit in the face with a leatherball from time to time, but this one took the cake.

The hours become insufferable when the cure to headache, nausea and a faded vision is being kept in a dark room with just plenty of water, some snacks and the occasional check-in on your phone.

This has been missing from our game for a long time. It’s good to see us getting back to the fast break, being quick and decisive in our passing to create the break.

Great article from Sid Lowe in the Guardian.

I love Almeyda’s coaching in the latest Desde Dentro. Seems like the players have bought-in.

With 16 fouls per game and an average of 3.5 yellow cards per game, we risk getting on the refs radars for reds and double yellows. With a thin squad, we might get punished heavy here, though the players so far have been disciplined enough to not make any stupid red card tackle.

Almeyda has made us more aggressive and raised the fighting spirit in us, which is great. But the players need to be careful, the RFEF is watching….

Circling back to this. I just found out that I live 5 minutes away from a franchise of our new kit sponsor. If I had any hope that they might have a single Sevilla logo or swag in their shop, I would be rushing in. But somehow I suspect that’s not the case.

I’ll let you know if they have a Sevilla-inspired smoothie. Orange-flower-essence and strawberries, maybe? i.e. something that’s red and reminds you of Sevilla?
