We haven’t always seen Sevilla’s best version at home due to the lack of creativity and reliance on the counter-attack. When given time with the ball, it only prolonged the inevitable to a team that lacked shape. But after only 5 games played, Matias Almeyda is making his team look like a competent outfit while giving structure to their defensive core. Sevilla have now gone 3 matches unbeaten, as they host Villarreal, one of the most steady clubs in Spain’s Big 3 era. Can Almeyda keep this run going, or will it be a bridge too far?
I’d take 1 point before the first whistle. The last three games have given some cause for optimism, but against Villareal there is no room for any of those mistakes we’ve seen a little too often so far.
That is some heavy rotation. At least we got some fire power on the bench if things turn sour. The line between brilliance and stupidity is a fine one, but fair play to Almeyda if this works out.
Vlacho is a better gk than Nyland. Just overall better, not that he can’t go on to concede a record nr of goals from this moment, but he is simply better in all aspects. Positioning, timing, stature etc
I think Almeyda thought this is a game they’re expected not to win, so give guys who aren’t getting much of a game time to play. They can change it up from the bench if need be, but why not give the rest of the squad a chance in a competitive game (that’s not early rounds of the Copa).
