La Liga 24/25 Matchday 36 - Sevilla FC vs Las Palmas

I would give Caparros a full season.

Suso a contract extension, 1+1 or 2+1 or similar, even as a sub he’d do in this economic situation. His contract expires at the end of this season and we won’t get anything from him anyway.

It will be very hard to keep Dodi, but all the other players may come and go. I’d like to see more of Pascual next season though. Hopefully not in Segunda :stuck_out_tongue:

Just read Suso’s interview where he mentions that he’ll leave at the end of the season.

Thank you for everything Suso.

Will always remember the spectacular goal vs. Juve which contributed to us winning the EL two seasons ago.

If he wants it then we might as well. We can’t keep chopping and changing managers.

One positive about Caparros is he gives youth a chance and that will be important considering right now we not in a good place financially. He also loves the club and his passion is great. It depends on his health and if he wants it long term though.

This summer is big and there needs to be some change. I think the board will stay again for now unfortunately but we need at least some squad changes and a sporting director change.

It going to be tough but we got to just hang in there until major changes occur to try revive this great club. It feels like we part of the walking dead or a sleeping giant but that passion last night was incredible. We have that electric atmosphere and feeling for the badge that hardly any other club has.

Viva Sevilla!

I watched this interview also. Suso has been a good player for us over the years and will be missed.

Agree with all your posts. The win last night was something to celebrate but the situation on and off the pitch is nowhere near good enough and does need to be addressed to get this club back to where it once was not so long ago.

I don’t see why Caparros can’t take on the job next season while a rebuild gets underway. At least he has passion and promotes the youth which the club needs. I won’t hold my breath that the board changes course though and they will probably paper over the cracks and appoint another no hoper and we struggle again. I hope not.

@Shendm92 it might have to be Segunda, both Alvaro & Suso are rumoured to have serious offers from Cadiz for next season.

I don’t think Caparros is the answer. I’m not sure it’d be good for him either with his health issues. I could be wrong though, this could be the start of a 3 game winning streak to end the season

I think we’ll need to see what the Biris & the fans have to say come the end of the season, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the protests this season, which could have an influence on how the whole club looks next season. If it’s true that the club still needs to sell €30 million worth of players by the end of the season, then the loss of someone such as Badé may raise questions of management once more. Time will tell.

If Bade goes and we can get out of this financial mess, then I’m all for it.

I think we’re left to day-dream about Monchi & investor friends plan

Me too. Get rid of some of the deadwood like Marcao again. Another waste of space.

I agree. The club has to sell arguably one of its only valuable assets, whether it’s Badé or Juanlu to balance the books. That only balances the books for one season however. What the sale doesn’t do is address the clubs debts which are around €300 million euros. So sadly, there’s still significant debt to address.

One of the other issues is, as a club that buys to sell, it’s really difficult to continually replace quality with better or equal quality, especially nowadays when every team who isn’t considered to be a big club is trying the same thing.

Sevilla will be reliant on Victor Orta et al finding another new (French) gem to build the defence around for a year or two before selling them on for a profit. They’d have to find a new star who’s available for free or on the cheap, which makes it even more difficult. How many of us trust him to do that job?

Great point. With the amount of data that is available now; you can’t simply out work and out scout someone. I think that is why we have had more misses than hits in the last 5 years.

@ChrisLail , have you read the book or seen the movie Moneyball?

Amazing stuff.

Pity that it can’t really work in football as we know it today, especially in the top leagues and to compete with the best. You’d have to be overperforming all the time against the big clubs and it’s literally, impossible.

And I agree, as you mentioned… back then with a little bit more data and scouting, and some extra info like Monchi had at the time (e.g. Alves etc.), clubs ours or Porto could do wonders. Now you have videos of Brazilians in favela playing and showing their skills, let alone some up and coming prospects in youth clubs.

Clubs will need better data analysts though… it would be a huge role for a club if used well.

Now it’s money/capital or go home. Very rare cases of constantly competing with the top clubs without a big capital / investment to back it up.

Hold on…where did the €300 million come from? Last time I heard over a year ago it was €90 million! I’m so confused :joy:

How are we in so much debt?

I’m only assuming that it has to do with the facility improvements of the training facilities and the stadium work.

Y’know I can’t remember where I heard that figure, but I think it must include costs for the stadium redevelopment

Like the new stadium reconstruction?

I can’t find a breakdown but the €300 million figure has been used in several articles and mentioned by Del Nido Sr at the last board meeting.

Concerns arose regarding Bade’s eligibility, prompting Las Palmas to consider a protest. These questions stemmed from the head injury protocol, which mandates a 6-day absence. However, after review, it was confirmed that Bade was indeed eligible to play. The incident in question was clearly a poke to the eye, not a head injury, thus the 6-day rule did not apply.

I’d definitely be interested to see a breakdown if found. Because I have no idea where that money is going since they’re spending very little on players, selling a lot and not buying a lot in return, so I’d be curious how it ballooned from €90-€300 million.
