It was poor defending but what can you expect from a poor defence. The first goal, ruled offside, was slack defending by Salas, he had the ball and could have put it out for a corner but he tried something and lost the ball. The first goal valid was equally slack, the player took three touches to line up his shot, we can’t allow that on the 18 yard line. The 25 yard out shot should have had players in front, we can’t allow unattended players to have pops at goal, at this level they don’t miss.
We need two central defenders, we can manage with accident-prone wing backs if they doing good work elsewhere and helping cover the shortcomings of central defenders.

I trusted Bade a lot… but he often does not deliver. Could be a pairing issue with Gudelj… miscommunication and what not, like in the case of marking Sorloth.
But yeah… we need two solid CB’s that don’t joke around. They don’t have to be world class, only decent - which La Liga has plenty. At least average football IQ and solid positionally, that’s all.

I didn’t get to really watch the game yesterday and missed the whole failure after going up 1-3.
What I don’t understand is why field Gudelj as a CB for the first time since the beginning of the season? Marcao has been just as serviceable when playing. I just didn’t quite understand.

I saw that he was fielded as a CB at least in 2 other matches in the league.

They are doing well… but this is when you face a frightened team with no winning mentality like Sevilla. You get dominated and are supposed to lose the game, but then end up winning and bragging about it anyway.
