23/24 - MD10: Sevilla FC vs Real Madrid

I thought we played very well last night. Some great attacking football and kept possession well.

Easily could have won that game but a draw probably a fair result and can’t be sniffed at against Real.

A promising start to the Diego Alonso era. Hopefully push on from here and move up that table as we are better than our position!

In any scenario closer to the box, Mir is better then Youssef. any scenario, except jumping for 3 meter high headers

i feel like nyland gets a lot of criticism. he can have bad days for sure but hes usually solid enough to start.

i think hes getting the edge over dmitrovic bc hes had a bit of a rough start to the season, altho i think he is one of the better goalkeepers in laliga.

not exactly good news…

but sounds like the team has handled it the right way.

Vini… that guys a bit of an instigator on the pitch. but still absolutely ZERO place for racism on the pitch or in the stands.

“A bit of an instigator” Is rather an under statement.
The guy thrives on it, goes out of his way to provoke fans and opposition players by his constant whining to the ref when things don’t go his way.
I agree that there is no room for racism, but if he was not such a complete and utter **** these problems would not occur. Ask why out of all the “none white” (hope that is not racist btw) players in La liga, it is only him that suffers this kind of abuse, coincidence?

Agreed. If the fans where actually racist, they would’ve cursed out their own players like Soumare and Lukebakio too. But they don’t. So it’s obviously a way fans show their discontent with a player acting like an arse rather than solely his skincolour.

Cursing someone out always result in cheap remarks. It’s easy to throw racist remarks, just as it is easy to call Ramos a ‘hijo de puta’ when he acted like an arse. None of it is valid or truly meant.

No. I really strongly disagree with this take. Although, I’ll admit that I don’t know what the gesture was.

Yes, I was creating an intentional understatement… But regardless: “He’s a prick and therefore he invites racism” is not a statement I can agree with. It’s the equivalent of victim blaming women after sexual assault. Racism is NEVER acceptable. No matter if you were being a prick or not.

Again, reoffering the caveat that I don’t know what actually was/wasn’t deemed racist. And I don’t believe that every insult hurled at a minority is necessarily racist. So this instance may have further subtlety, but again, just because someone is a raging asshole does not create permission for racist treatment EVER.

He’s the best player in the league and plays for Real Madrid. That’s usually enough.

Saying it’s not an excuse almost makes it sound like it is with how often it gets brought up when these incidents happen.

This is pretty unambiguous. Fuck this guy.

There is a really big distinction, in my view, between shouting at or even insulting players and use of racial epithets and gestures (as the one above).

Verbal abuse of players should also be curtailed, but there is really no gray area when shit gets racist as far as I’m concerned.

There will always be some neanderthal idiot to fall into the trap that little Vinny sets if he throws out enough bait.

Victim blaming? As @Rene1 says, you can’t blame Vini for “inciting” racism. Fuck that!! That’s on the fan and society as a whole.

He’s not an isolated figure either, this has been happening for years but La Liga flat out denied there was a problem and refused to do anything meaningful about it.

I remember that Juan Cala incident quite clearly.

Vini isn’t the problem…

Two things can be true at once. Vini IS part of the problem AND La Liga (football in general) has not dealt with the racial slurs/taunts.

Vini is the problem because he does instigate the majority of the conflicts he is involved in. Throwing out the blatant racial incidents, he is a pampered asshole looking for conflict. He is protected due to playing on Real Madrid so he gets away with more than most players and is in fact rewarded, which encourages more of the behavior from him. The more cards he gets opposing players, the better. That which is subsidized (rewarded), gets you more of it. His crappy behavior will continue and even worsen because he can paint every incident, whether justified or not, with racial overtones, even if there is none.

I just got caught up on the match. Played extremely well. Disappointed to lose points on another setpiece awarded from a foul by Ramos. Especially with terrible defending on a player that shouldn’t be beating En-Neysri. Oh well. Much improved play already.
Soumare looks like a player. Hard to believe he couldn’t get any run from Mendi.

At times we looked to play much more narrow early in the match and then spread wider as we got on with it.

That’s what you say, but have you tested his Spanish fluency? Surely the guy is atrocious! How dare Diego Alonso risk the result on a guy whose Spanish hasn’t been proven yet

Ok fair point, however how is this any different from say 90% of La Liga players? If a player can get a competitive advantage over another are they not taking it?

For example look at Sevilla’s own Lucas Ocampos - He quite blatantly dives/exaggerates.contact, knocks over players and loudly/visibly complains about refereeing decisions yet despite being a foreigner, does he get the same kind of abuse as Vini? Does anyone throw :maté: or steak at him? Do they call him racial slurs? - I can answer that one…

Also what are you saying man??! Jesus! Yeah, no racist overtones in what those two troglodytes were doing…

Take away the fans…pretend we are in the middle of covid. Vini’s demeanor towards other players and referees has been built on conflict. He exaggerates, flops and complains about everything. Notice this incident was not predicated by the racial issue…it occurred after Vini’s antics. I am not excusing or justifying the fans behavior. I hope they are made an example of and banned. To clarify, when I said

Every incident on the field with other players, whether or not Vini has experienced racism or not, he finds it. Blatant words and gestures from fans has not been defended by anyone that I have seen.

If you have looked at my past comments, I have been equally as critical of Ocampos time and time again. His flopping pisses me off and makes him, and the team look bad. The difference between the two is Vini is protected due to being on Real Madrid. I have said in the past and still believe if refs gave out more cards for simulation (flopping), it would improve the game.
