Akor Adams scores again for Nigeria today. He now has 2 in the tournament along with 2 assists.
And he hit the post with a header.
Semi final on Wednesday. Nigeria V Morroco. Yen & Bono V Akor & Ejuke
Who’s going to take it in Pens? Morocco or Nigeria?
Hard to bet against Bono…
I wanted neither team to lose. I’m happy for Bono & YEN. It’s annoying Akor & Ejuke have to play another game rather than getting back to Sevilla asap. Hopefully Nigeria win the 3rd place play-off and come back somewhat happy
What an awful match to watch though tonight. ![]()
Once it goes to pens there was only going to be 1 winner, Bono.
BTW I can’t believe that Nwabali in goal for Nigeria is only 29! He looks old enough to be the dad of his team mates.
Akor played the full 98 minutes in Nigeria’s penalty victory (no extra time in the third place match, straight to pens) against Egypt. He scored the pen in the shootout.
He must be super exhausted now and naturally will miss our very important match vs Elche.
But if he’s physically fit without any lingering injuries (you never know at this point) - he should be back for us against Bilbao.
Ejuke on the other hand, is fresh as fuck, having played very little in the tournament, almost not at all.
Let’s use his trickery in our fierce battle to stay up this season.
I think Vlacho has done an admirable job with the shambles of a back four in front of him but he is still on loan and I don’t think the club can afford him when his loan is over. Would Bono be willing to come back when his contract is up? He’s still pretty good and can’t wait to see him in the world cup.
Totally insane conclusion to afcon final. 90th minute Senegal goal disallowed because of what seemed like a borderline/light shove. Next play at the other end, Brahim Diaz draws a light foul in the box with VAR review granting a penalty for Morocco only after he threw a total tantrum and incited the crowd to call for it. Senegal is pissed and game goes to disarray for about 20 mins as they briefly walk off the pitch. Finally they come back. YEN, who normally takes pens, gives it to Diaz. Diaz then tries a panenka which fails miserably as Mendy just stands and catches it at his chest. Game goes to overtime. Senegal scores four minutes into OT (on a beautiful goal by Gueye) and hold on to become champions.
such a bizarre penalty. Bono was absolutely incredible and nothing he could’ve done on the goal. Saved them multiple times. YEN and him bawling together after the game was super sad. Yen must be kicking himself for unselfishly giving up the pen to Diaz… wild
That penalty will surely go down as one of the worst penalties of all time. I don’t think Mendy could believe it at first when he caught it.
Bono won the best goalkeeper award & Diaz was top goal scorer.
for ten minutes i was just trying to decide if he knew it was a bullshit penalty and decided give Mendy and easy save as a demonstration of good sportsmanship…. but i do not think that was the case.
it was historically terrible.
despite the shit show at the end, the game was actually quite fun to watch. some very good opportunities on both sides. i think the frame was hit three times over the course of the game? and some other incredible Bono saves mixed in there too.
I vowed never to watch football again had that penalty went in. I didn’t have a dog in the fight, but seeing Senegal’s goal disallowed the way it did, followed by that last minute penalty call, was too much. I asked myself “what else am i going to witness on a football pitch before my love for it is truly gone?”
The only thing that gave me some sort of retraint was that the refs on the pitch were Congolese. So i tried not to cuss them out too much.
But all tournament it was the sort of favouritism you would see for Madrid or Barça, or even Juve.
I find it funny that i wasn’t the only one who thought Brahim might’ve fluffed his penalty on purpose. I feel like i might’ve seen a player do that before, but not with such high stakes. Thankfully we witnessed a great goal win the final. Senegal played well throughout the AFCON (even though they were lucky to draw against my Leopards in the group stage), and deserved to get that far. Commiserations to the Morocco fans for not winning a final at home, they got very close had El Kaabi slotted home that beautiful ball from Diaz.
Lastly, that whole situation between the ball boys stealing the opposing keeper’s towel was straight up embarrassing. Seen a vid where the reserve GK had to guard it, and even he was being harassed. Shame.
all of that sentiment is shared. utter chaos… as a spectator, lots of fun.
i did just feel sad for Bono and YEN.
