2024-2025 By The Numbers

I wanted to start a thread looking at some of the stats from this past season. One that stood out to me was this one:

Marcão played in 12 games, 552 minutes and had a team worst -1.79 plus/minus per 90 minutes. -11 plus/minus

Carmona : -14
Agoume : -13
Salas : -12
Issac: -10

Nianzou: +2
Vargas: +2
Idumbo: 0

Top La Liga goalscorer was Lukebakio with 11 goals, tied for 2nd were Isaac and Juanlu with 4 each.

Equalling Lukebakio’s 11 goals (in 38 games), 11 players scored 1 goal each, making a total of 230 appearances combined.

:index_pointing_at_the_viewer: You Americans and these stats! Y’all bringing plus/minus into this now?! :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: /jk

I’m guessing the number represents goals? It makes sense for Nianzou & Vargas to be in the positive because i remember us getting good results with them on. But the only reason they remain in the + is due to all the games missed. Tbh, everyone deserves to be minus.

Of the last 4 coaches (Diego Alonso, Kinky Flores, GP & Caparros) only 1 of the 4 (Kinky) had their best coaching performance (by win percentage) of their last 4 jobs. For the other 3, their time at Sevilla yielded the lowest win % of their last 4 jobs.

Yeah it’s basically goal differential while you are on the pitch.

Sevilla’s goal deferential (-13) was the worst since the regulated season of 1999-2000 (-25)

Transfermarkt, which is obviously not gospel, published updated values today.

Agoumé is the only player who goes up in value, from €7m to €8m.
For all the others they stayed the same or fell such as:

Badé €30m to €25m
Lukebakio €30m to €25m
(I’m surprised to see Badé valued so much, Lukebakio is a better player.)
Isaac Romero €10m to €6m (was valued at €18m a year ago)
Lokonga €9m to €8m
Ekuje €6m to €4m
etc

Sevilla’s squad is still 9th by value overall, behind the 5 who made Champions League, Sociedad, “Rhymes with lettuce” and Valencia.

The values don’t tell me a ton, IMHO.

However, I have always found your relative rankings in squad value to be a pretty reliable predictor of performance.

Hence, in my view we should be expecting a roughly 9th place finish next season based solely on this metric. One hopes for a turnaround with new sporting director and new coach, but I’ll take data over hopes 8 days a week.

I’m not going to place any bets on this indicator alone, but if I had to place a bet, I’d place a bet on 8th to 10th place finish next season. And based on this season’s performance, I’d be perfectly glad with that.

I’d like to see us aim for a European finish next season. So the Conference League would do me. I miss our midweek European games.

A lot of work needed to achieve this but I believe it’s possible with the right management on and off the pitch.

Big jump to go from last team to stay up to European spot

I’d take staying up again. We have to be realistic right now sadly.

Not doubting that for one minute but reasons to be optimistic with Cordon coming in and looking like Alguacil as manager.

I think we can get back to the European places in time though. The key is to stabilise next 2-3 years. Then we can get back to where we belong. Hopefully with more money to spend, cordon and new manager can help us get us back into top 7 again at least then push up from there. If we get back quicker even better

At the very least, :poop: can be bitter about Cordon. That’s never a bad thing :joy:

We don’t have a manager yet, but whoever it ends up being doesn’t have to do a whole lot to improve over the last two years…

Crazy to think we had same number of points last season and this…and yet this season the relegation line was at 40 points, ie. One point of safety, whereas last season the relegation line was at 33 points.

One factor was Valladolid being so, so wicked bad. But the other difference was that there was a really extreme bunching of middling squads this year. 19th place Las Palmas was only 20ish points from European competition. Last year’s 19th placed finisher, Almería, was a whopping 36 points (!) from European competition.

PS - I hate to say this, but whenever you produce that graph, it just screams “Bring back Lopetegui”. Granted, I think that’s the wrong intuition, but based solely on that graph, it certainly makes me drool over those Lope season results

Would it help if I included Lopetegui’s results since he left? :joy:
