He came back late from duty with French U-21
To get match fit, experiment and validate changes to the system. Unfortunately the season is starting earlier and earlier but not the transfer market so there is more pressure to rebuild early. So it’s kinda difficult to mock up a defence without Badé and Marcáo, difficult to accomodate/integrate Idrissi, Rony, Delaney and Oscar, plus Isaac, Salas, Ortiz and Juanlu.
Overall, preseason it is a difficult task of coordination with fitness and some players arriving later, but I think for most players the minutes on field have been shared out.
We haven’t fielded a strong 11 because we haven’t got one that is match fit. It’s been a joke but we’re getting players fit which the only thing we can do for now.

Yeah you have to watch pre season games in a whole different way. Which might make it hard to enjoy them sometimes. I just try to find moments that show potential, like a good read of play from one of the young players, something small that shows class or ability.
Juanlu looks way more composed and comfortable compared to last year for example. Him playing those 37 games on loan last year, definitely did something. But that many positives I couldn’t find either, which is why I am even more annoyed by Ocampos his childish behaviour, completely ruining the positivity and teambuilding that preseason is for, just straight up toe curling.

Couldn’t watch these two weekend games. Judging from highlights, are we ready for Dmitrovic to be the starting keeper? The lack of cohesion in defence didn’t help, but some of those errors were atrocious.
Worse part about all this is PSG & Bayern trying to low-ball us for Bounou.

I think that depends on what you expect out of a goalkeeper. I’ve said it before, but Bono has covered us with more than normally we should have gotten away with over the years. So everything, from how good our defense is, to how many points you got and how few we conceded, all looked kinda inflated. With a more run of the mill goalkeeper things will show through even more, especially if we are in as much of a struggle as last year.
Generally I don’t go into a match from a goalkeeper perspective thinking he will win us the game. Except maybe against peak Courtois or Oblak, from years back, just knowing this will be a hard game to even get through or score. Dmitrovic does his job, manages to get some balls, good physical presence and experience but nothing exceptional so that’s what we just need to take into account and expect to take it exactly as that.
If we need to get bailed out and need an overperforming goalkeeper to win our games, we will need to look further. But is it realistic, probaby not. The goalkeeper generally will accentuate the problem if things go bad and vice versa if things go good in the broader aspect of the team in my opinion.

As for the match… not a bad half, but we are definitely nowhere ready to kick off the season and there’s not much reason for excitement to be honest. Still an incomplete squad with lots of unknowns.
