Summer Friendlies in USA

#1

We’ll be playing in the International Champions Cup. It’s a nothing tournament, but it should help spread Sevilla’s brand given the types of clubs usually invited to play in it. And those of us in the US will get a chance to see a match or two.

Sweet!

#3

The US friendlies in the ICC are usually played from mid-July to the end of July. This could be an issue if we do not win the CDR and end up finishing 7th, since that would mean starting from the second qualifying round in EL (the new format) and the first legs of that round are played on the 26th of July (return on the 2nd of August).

#4

Don’t think 7th place plus losing the CdR gets us a Europa League spot anymore.

#5

If Barca wins the CDR, the 5th and 6th places are qualified for the group stages of the EL, and the second qualifying round spot goes to the 7th place in the league (Sevilla, if we finish 7th).

It used to be the losing finalists of the Cup going to the Uefa Cup/EL group stages, but now an extra place in the league is awarded (the lowest starting round eligible for the league).

#6

The recent changes of UEFA with the new CL and EL formats are as such:

Before (until the 2016-17 season):

1st, 2nd and 3rd places = group stages of CL

4th place = CL playoff

5th place = group stages of EL

6th place = third qualifying round of EL

CDR winner = group stages of EL

In case that the CDR winner is already qualified for the group stages of EL through the league (e.g. Barca), then 5th and 6th places of the league = group stages of EL, and the 7th place of the league = third qualifying round of EL.

Now and afterwards (starting 2017-18):

1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places = group stages of CL

5th place = group stages of EL

6th place = second qualifying round of EL

CDR winner = group stages of EL

So the same happens if a team already qualified for the group stages (Barca) wins the CDR, the 5th and 6th places = group stages of EL while 7th place = second qualifying round of EL.
