Good thing that we kept Carlos Fernandez, but he should step his game up if he wants more minutes as with the current system, I doubt he’ll play more than the first couple of CDR matches, if lucky (as a starter).
Looks like a good squad, maybe in depth and quality the best in a while or atleast the most expensive one. We invested a lot tho, without direct returns so this is like a make or break year. Eventhough we have a solid enough base, and enough promising players with rising or stable values. In the field the foundation is there as well so in a good flowing team, to integrate and bring the new players shouldn´t be too much of a problem. Do we ´have´ enough goals (goal scoring players), potentially yes but it just depends who gets most chances. Compared to the horrendeous start how Luuk de Jong was forced into the team, which needed to change the whole team dynamic and was hard to watch at the start, we learned how to play and use our strengths better atleast around him.
Also there are soo many options for our 4-5 attacking players, Lope is in a situation of luxury in my opinion and can also choose on player form and performances instead of just having to choose your standard front 3 like many teams.
He´s a Left winger
Literally 10 players all bringing different aspects to the game more or less, means our subs should be able to hard impact any game.
Deep: De Jong, Carlos F, En Nesyri
Second: Munir, Vazquez, Oscár Rodriguez
Left: Idrissi, Ocampos, Torres
Right: Suso
And many are interchangeable as well, with Munir, Ocampos or Torres being able to play many…
Im a big fan, when during the game wings switch and Ocampos pops up on the left for some minutes, new direct opponent, different style (around or inside) new combination parter. It messes up defences.
Hope Ocampos doesn´t take the competition negatively, like he has been doing. You are good but not untouchable my friend. When does too much competition become negative? Really hope it doesn´t negatively impact the great team atmosphere we had last season and nobody becomes a disruptor.
I can’t help but think this is our best transfer window in sometime. We were able to keep the vultures away. The continuity between staff and players will be the strongest it has been for as long as I can remember. It was a bit of a different window for Monchi, but I think he did what needed to be done, keep the young studs for another season and add some experience and depth. I’m super excited about the chances if our man Navas stays healthy. That’s the only position I am a bit concerned with.
None of our pearls have been sold and that should translate into a consolidation, which bodes well for the future. Logically, if you don’t sell many players you don’t have much scope for new pearls, that’s the law of diminishing returns. So I agree that this has been the best transfer window I can recall.
Idrissi can play on the right too if needed
Another point that I didn’t think of is this, We still spent around $66 million in a year with a pandemic, no fans, lost revenue. That’s remarkable considering where we were less than 10 years ago financially.
Kounde, Diego Carlos, Ocampos, and Carlos Fernández (& Gnagnon
) all staying is the latest 2020 plot twist for me. I will surely rest easy during this Int’l break.
Gnagnon is really staying isn’t he? With him and Rekik we’d have 5 CB’s lol.
We have a very strong squad this season, arguably our best in years.
A great transfer window for us being able to keep hold of Kounde, Carlos and Ocampos and adding to the team with Rakitic, Acuna, Rodriguez, Rekik and Idrissi.
Solid start to the league also. Lots of reasons to feel positive and to say we’re in for another good season.
Well done Monchi and Lope.
Has to be Vidal - Navas can’t play all three competitions. He’s a wonder man, but that’s asking a bit too much.
Yes, and Javi Díaz makes it 26. Since we only have 3 homegrown players (Navas, Fernandez & Diaz) we can only have a squad of 24 for the CL. My understanding is that Gnagnon & Vidal won’t make that list.
Also, @SurreySevilla it would’ve been nice to have Rafinha, especially since he left on a free. But i trust Monchi’s judgement. I’d rather have a young Oscar than him.
We have a very exciting squad. We have strengthened the squad and kept hold of all our star players. Very exciting times ahead. It’s a shame we lost reguillon and Banega but we replaced them with quality and added to that too.
We can do great things this season. Vamos!
Can’t believe no one mentioned our biggest signing at the deadline, this is a game changer folks. Also kudos to the PR team stepping up and winning plaudits if nothing else. Good publicity is hard to garner.
Would share your optimism if the club could find a decent RB backup, Navas is all the club has for CL games.
Holland vs México yesterday wasn’t a great match. But to me one player that stood out was Jesus Corona. His control on the ball, driving and dribbles well to create handful of good chances. If he finished better would have scored two. Was playing against a debuting left back but also switched sides now and then. He was playing RW, but at RB he still does his thing. If we look to replace Navas, he has to be up there for sure. Maybe next summer we can try again.
