Well shit now we can’t fire him haha.
Normally the kiss of death
I mean…he deserved it! haha
Don’t get my memory started. I was against his appointment from day 1, he managed to flunk past Man U and went to the final of the Copa Del Rey but Sevilla got thrashed in the final and was a complete shitstorm in the league.
One of the least inspiring managers in the last decade to say the least.
I was interviewed by the Villarreal USA site.
Maybe in that weird UK English.
3 players in the Marca top 100 football players.
77 Diego Carlos
54 Banega
37 Koundé
Wow Navas didn’t make the list? He’s Spain’s best right back.
He did, my bad. Jesus, Excuse me…
(50 Navas)
How is Messi 10th?

Why isn’t Gudelj there?
He just fell short apparently, Pretty sure he was 101.
Deserved place
I guess up is assist per key pass and across is goal per shoot
I was a guest on the Subs Bench podcast last night. I thought it was a pretty good discussion.
Lopetegui’s contract has been renewed for an additional 2 years (until 2024).
I have mixed feelings about this. Yesterday’s game showed that we definitely have the capacity to play attacking football, score more goals and kill games off - Lope just doesn’t want to do it and rather tries to play it safe, but how safe it really is at the end of the day? Failing to kill the games off can give opponents (even modest teams) hope that they can still get something out of it. So it’s a matter of approach and tactics.
On the other hand, the guy won us an EL last season, got us on the fourth place, which I still consider 3rd because we were level on points with Atletico but better on aggregate h2h and we’re not doing bad this season either.
He most definitely deserved a contract extension but I’d keep it at 2 seasons max, 3 is pushing it a bit. We’re often very boring on our play and with fans coming back in the stadiums this won’t work well, they’d want more excitement. So as long as Lope changes the approach at least for the 2021-22 season, it will be much better. The decent results are keeping him in the role and as long as results are there, it is alright.
As a lot of us keep saying, we don’t mind to be the next Atletico as long as we will step it up and seriously challenge for the title and CL while beating the teams that we should beat, beat or give the top teams a lot of headache and not concede silly goals. We’re still not there yet, but let’s see.
His original contract was actually 3 years and it would expire at the end of the 2021-22 season, so this was basically a 2 year extension - in this case it should’ve been 1 imo (with 1 or 2 more as optional for the club).
Agreed on this. He got the job done last season but this season is a mixed bag with bland football against the mid to lower table sides while getting points against Sevilla’s main contenders such as Sociedad, Villarreal and Valencia.
I see Barca being in a rut for at least 2-3 more seasons and Real limping along with their unchanged squad so la liga is up for grabs. To give and sign an extension at this stage is a sign of faith in Lope’s ability and leadership. He’s doing his job but I would rather wait till the end of the current season to hammer anything down, or it could be Monchi giving a morale boost before the Atletico game.
