Opinions on Lopetegui's Sevilla

What ever happened to Ernesto Valverde? He managed Barcelona and got sacked while they were 1st in la liga and after they topped their UCL group?

I don’t think he’s that bad a manager and he’s out of a job, what do you all think of that?

A good shout. He’s certainly a possibility and has a good CV like you said. I just hope we can get a very attack minded manager again like sampaoli and Juande ramos were.

Bring Sampaoli back. Loved his football. So exciting to watch.

I’ve seen his name floated around. Messi carried the hell outta his Barça teams. But that wasn’t enough in Europe, as they got some terrible results. Basically, I see him doing the same sort of job as Lopetegui, just less possession-based.

@Edinho Are you now starting to lean towards #lopetegui out now? Especially with Betispiss with a great chance of usurping us for the final champions league place. Surely we can get a more attack minded manager who can evolve this club more.

Levante will be a tough game midweek. They’re playing well recently and fighting for relegation, so have a lot to play for. Our away form in general hasn’t been great.

It’s really important that we’re winning against the teams down near the bottom as we’ve still got two very difficult games away at Villareal and Atleti to play.

This could really go down to the wire for us and I think the risk of keeping Lope is that we continue our downwards slide and miss out on the top 4. There are risks of changing a manager now at such a late stage but sometimes you have to take a risk.

I don’t think Monchi and co. are considering a new manager at least until the season is over. Going for a sacking now would solely depend on how the feeling is around the team and their view on Lope. If the players have turned against Lope, then yes - a new manager might be considered to get that spark going again as is often the effect when a manager has lost his grip on the squad. I just don’t think that is the case with Lope. As I said in and earlier post I suspect that the team is really a team and that includes Lope right now.

We could take a quick look at Burnley (no, I’m not comparing them as a club to us). As far as I can tell the players were comfortable with Sean Dyche, but the management seems to have panicked and tried going for that chock-effect. Time will tell if it pans out, but I doubt it.

Lope until the end of the season would be my guess.

Martial was a bit of a panic buy. You can’t blame us for going for him though. A player with a lot of talent but too often doesn’t show it and lets himself down with his attitude.

I do feel the squad we have has a lot of strength but some players aren’t good enough and we are ageing as team. A change of manager and squad revamp therefore is needed. Our whole philosophy as a club needs to change, not just on the pitch but off if we want to take the next step and compete with the very best.

Otherwise we’ll remain a poor mans Arsenal.

Sacking Lope now doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll get a new manager on a contract immediately after. We can appoint Fernando Navarro or someone as a caretaker until the season is over, just like we did with Caparros before.

Monchi & co will have some time to think and to asses the options until June and start the season with a new manager.

I’m afraid that we’ll somehow end up 4th and then the management decides to ‘respect’ the contract with Lope as it runs out in 2024 and give it a go for another season, which would be totally pathetic at this point.

I don’t think he has coaching papers no? I think he is being groomed to take over Monchi’s position, not a coaching position.

Could be I don’t know.

Brotha, i was completely done w/ him during that Copa del Rey run. If it sounds like i’m pro-Lopetegui, it’s cause i’m backing him since he’s our manager right now. I don’t have a say in whether he gets sacked or not, so it’s a ride or die thing. If management sees him as the future of this club, then i’ll respect their decision.

Attack-minded doesn’t mean this team will be more successful. I just want someone that’s competent with whatever style they choose for the team.

so I haven’t been on the forum in a while (nice to see everyone again btw), is the general consensus on the forum that we want Lope out?

I still support Lopetegui, but that winless streak before the Granada win really was terrible. There’s no goal supply anymore and the build up play is really stale. We do need something new and fast

Papu is so influential in our attack. After the :poop: game, where he got injured, we scored just two goals in over a month.

He comes back vs Granada, after he gets subbed on, we score three (including the one Mir scored that was disallowed for a "foul) and the other two, he played a crucial part in (providing the cross that allowed the Rakitic assist) and scoring a goal.

Against Madrid, we score two. After he gets subbed, we go on to lose.

We can also talk about his impact right before his injury.

The truth is, he’s by far our best attacking player
