La Liga fixtures just dropped. Don’t see a 26/27 thread so putting this here for now. Sevilla’s first 6: Rayo (H) Athletic Club (A) Atletico (H) Espanyol (A) Valencia (H) Deportivo (A) First 3 against European qualifiers, next 2 versus rivals of similar level, then a promoted club. La Liga kicking off tomorrow before any of the other traditional top 5 leagues. And what a treat as it’s 1st game: Alavés vs Getafe. 😒 It could be the last ever football match to exist, and i still wouldn’t watch that crap. 🤮 ---

La Liga really taking the piss here. Trying to get ahead of everyone by starting a week early, only have 12 teams take to the pitch on the first matchday with Real and Barca not involved, then choose Alaves vs Getafe to be the starting match. Guess they really missed Bordalas ball. ---

So…Valencia are absolute trash. I know it was Barcelona, but they haven’t looked competitve since their run last year. And Barcelona look incredible, like…holy crap good. ---

To be fair it was the clubs who wanted to start then even though some were going to have to postpone due to players being involved in the world cup. The real nonsense is that they only announce the date and time of the Sevilla - Valencia game 11 days before and still no one knows any times and dates after 20th September, with the exception of El Clasico on 25th October, which they already announced the time of last week(!) They really don’t care about the other 18 clubs and never miss a chance to highlight their bias and favoritism. ---

Pitchwise, a US investment firm, has bought 42% of Valencia for €400 million in a deal that values the club at €1.25 billion (the difference in the maths is due to debt.) As part of the deal they’ll make an immediate capital injection of €100 million, most of which will go on infrastructure such as training facilities, ensuring that the new stadium is ready to move into next summer and providing €10-€12 million for transfers in the winter market. That catapults Valencia into being easily the 4th most valued club, way ahead of teams like Villarreal, B-tis and Sociedad who are around the €400-500m mark. The valuation seems to be based on the new stadium potential for corporate hospitality and year round events as well as the money that will come from selling the prime city centre land the old stadium sits on which is valued at at least €150m. The downside is that Peter Lim and Meriton retain a near controlling stake of 49.5% and, as Lim has just got his investment back, he has no rush to sell the remainder. Hard to see it as not a positive for the club. For Sevilla to do similar, they need to push through the sale of approx 85% of shares. The new owner(s) need to put in at least €80m of capital to allow Sevilla to expand the salary cap. The next stage is probably getting the new stadium built. It’s a slow and painful process, but can be done. One issue at the moment is that B-tis are using La Cartuja until 2028 so it’s under question whether La Liga would allow a groundshare there?
