It’s like Roma bringing in Ranieri after sacking two coaches, it’s a move to appease the fans and buy time for the board, but this has way more desperation about it, as they cling on to the hope of making Europe next season.
Finally, who comes in to take on a team with so much animosity between board and fans, practically no money and the looming threat of losing at least their top scorer from 24/25? It’s such a massive job that feels like it’s becoming a poisoned chalice. Look at the available coaches list on Transfermarkt and you’ll notice many of our recent coaches including Lopetegui are without clubs.
