Experienced Marcáo makes childish error, experienced in what I ask, going down injured and banking his wages?
Only Lukebakio gives hope. Juanlu is well and truly a fish out of water in that position, Iheanacho couldn’t score in a … well you know where.
It’s not really the player’s fault for getting injured. Perhaps some don’t work as hard to try to get back to fitness, but Marcão is putting an effort to fight for the team. He’s clearly regressed from the lack of playing and has lost a step. Missing a season is all it can take for a player to become unrecognizable. I remember us wanting Sadiq who was on La Real’s bench last night, and he hasn’t scored in months.
Espanyol is a sorry team, while Real Sociedad has players with continental pedigree. They haven’t started well, but it’s still a team that has a core who’s played with each other, and already has a grasp on how to execute their gameplan. We don’t play as a team yet, as most of these guys weren’t regular starters last season. The injuries aren’t helping the process, but we were starting to get somewhere.
We’re gonna have to be patient with this group. It might take the whole season to genuinely have something nice to say about the team, but we have to give them that time. It’s like that forgettable 2011-12 season where we had to reset and get back to basics. But rest assured, no matter where we finish, we’ll always be better than B*tis.
I do wonder if injuries are an ongoing problem for us.
This isn’t the first season where we’ve had an injury crisis. I seem to remember it being the same the last few seasons.
Sociedad for me are in a false position. They’re a top six side on paper (better than us for me) and I’m sure they’ll keep moving up the league. Maybe being in Europe hasn’t helped them.
I actually like Marcáo but the facts are stacked against him, I’m still willing to give him benefit of doubt but he’s fast running out of time.
