Sevilla FC vs. Alaves - 04-04-2019 - Matchday 30

After a disappointing “must win” from Sunday, we face another one this week versus Alavés who are currently one point ahead of Sevilla. Further making it a must is the win by Valencia today over Real Madrid. If Sevilla were to win, they would find themselves and Valencia in the 5th and 6th positions in La Liga respectively, and only 1 point behind 4th place Getafe . A loss would crush Sevilla’s hopes for Champions League football for the 2019-2020 season.
I haven’t found a list of players yet.
Vamos!

Definitely a must win if we want to remain with slight hopes for the 4th.

If Mesa can replicate his 2nd half performance against Real Sociedad i’ll be more than pleased. We also got goals in this XI with Sarabia back. And perhaps Promes is better as a option off the bench at this point? It’s always good to have an ace up your sleeve.

And as mentioned… MUST-WIN GAME! Playing 2 direct rivals at home, we must capitalize on 1 of them.

¡Vamos muchachos!

7’ - Munir with almost another golazo from a corner. Then Mudo with a good chance in the box, but misses the target.

Good start.

19’ - We’re finding it harder to get into their area with Alavés defending well from the front. We’ve tried a few long balls, but they aren’t resulting to much.

Sarabia with a lovely cross to Munir who heads it over the bar. Another good chance missed.

Mesa & Sarabia have been the better players so far. Roque is pinging some lovely passes to open players (often to Sarabia or Navas), and defending well in central midfield.

27’ - More pressure being put on Alavés as we’re getting more corners and putting more dangerous crosses in.

From the first 30 min alone, Gonalons & Mesa has been a better tandem than with Amadou.

39’ - Navas carded for speaking a bit too much to the ref. Our boy getting fiesty out here.

Sarabia just makes things happe

¡GOOOOOL DE SEVILLA!

Escudero’s cross finds Sarabia open in the box, who plays in Mesa who timed his run to perfection to slot in home for the opener. 1-0 Sevilla.

Much needed goal for how much we dominated this half.

What a beaut! Great team goal too.

46’ - Escudero booked after stopping a counter. He misses the next match. Yikes, we didn’t need that.

Ref blows for halftime. 1-0 for the boys from Nervión.

Perhaps the most obvious difference from our last 2 matches is the presence of Sarabia. To actually have someone that can play that position has added a missing layer from our attack from the previous games. Mudo roaming from LM is helping to create supremacy in midfield, and offers good balance to what’s happening with Sarabia on the other end.

Our double pivot of Gonalons-Mesa are doing a masterful job in defence & attack. Hopefully they remain consistent for the full 90 mins.

The front 2 are doing well to combine with each other and the wingers. They’ve been more of the providers in the 1st half.

2nd half about to begin with no changes. More of the same please, but with a little bit of Gil at the end porfa!

50’ - Munir again getting a chance after a scramble from a corner, but he puts it over the bar.

PALO!

Ben Yedder hits the post from a near-post header from Sarabia’s FK.

My bad for not clocking this, but Munir is always in the same spot for every corner, hence why he’s getting these chances. He has hit some mean volleys for us already.

63’ - Some good work by Sarabia & Navas on the right leads to Munir getting a chance just inside the box, but he has no right foot and scuffs it.

Yellow cards flying out now. I swear that’s like 3 bookings for Alavés in the last 10 minutes. Not to mention Wakaso’s yellow within the first 10 seconds of this half.
