M14: Valladolid v Sevilla [2019-20]

START TIME
Sunday, November 24th, 2019
1500 EST / 2100 CET / 0700 AEST

The last international break of the year is behind us as we enter the final stretch of matches before the winter holiday. We begin with a trip to Valladolid, who have yet to suffer defeat at home this season. Having one of the best away records in La Liga, Sevilla can finish the matchday in 3rd if the boys come through with a victory.

There were concerns over Ocampos’ fitness after his matches with Argentina, but he makes the squad of 21. Carriço still misses out through injury, while Lopes, Bryan & Dabbur are left out.

Projected XI: Vaclík; Navas, Kounde, Carlos, Reguilón; Fernando, Jordán, Banega; Ocampos, De Jong, Nolito.

MATURATION
It was a beautiful outcome to see Luuk De Jong score the derbi winner to earn Lopetegui’s first big win of the season. The process seems to be steadying as Julen tries to create an identity out of a new team. Are Sevilla finally starting to shed their “Jekyll & Hyde” reputation as an away team?

¡Vamos mi Sevilla!

Julen’s favourite XI confirmed. At least Munir is on the bench.

Did we just get a pen?

Banega has it saved… but it must be retaken. GK encroached. VAR finally being consistent.

Vamos! Banega at 2nd time of asking!

Aweful penalty, however we got another chance. That´s how you take a Penalty, thanks Ever. Let´s go Boys 0-1 up!

Ref about to lose control of this match! :joy:

Well that Nacho guy wasn´t focused too much on the ball. Blocking Ocampos like he´s clueless. Yet Ocampos exaggerating his fall.

Again with the low crosses. It’s as if they think Wissam is our #9.

Great counter attack with Ocampos, Navas and Nolito, perfect passing however, very well defended in the end. Maybe had to one tap it there, which still makes it unlikely but with Nolito you never know. Some great technical kicks.

Nolito… what the hell was THAT?!?

Jezus, Talking about Nolito´s kicking ability…

Nolito as a LW is too one-dimensional, and can only score curlers. It’s like he had too much time for that shot.

We’re getting the ball deep, but that final ball is really lacking. Poor crosses, and sloppy passing in the final 3rd. Need more from Jordan.

Embarrassing from Nolito! What a chance for 2-0 before the break!

Still overall we played well and controlled the match in general. We just need to stay alert and also need to kill this game with a 2nd goal. This is what we need to work on but hopefully we can see this through for another big win.

We have plenty of good options on bench to freshen things up too! Let’s make sure we don’t mess this up, a win here would have us sitting really pretty before the home match vs bottom club leganes next weekend! Vamos!

I think it´s the only place where he can function decently if you decide to play him right now. On the Right wing, he becomes one dimensional in another way that he´doesn´t have the pace to get by the defender one on one, and it becomes like a side player in Handball thats just there to keep the field wide. and lay off back to Banega or Jordan. He can still dive into some spaces and score from nothing. But he´ll be more usefull LW than any other position, or we might as well not play him.

edit: *Handball ofcourse, not sure how I compared Football with Volleyball over there…

Yea that’s his only position in a 4-3-3. He can also play as a support striker if we have 2 up top.

We need to be careful again. Not to repeat Valencia away here!

Too many fouls from Reguilón today.
